Editorial Opinion: First and foremost, this article does not support or advocate violence of any type. Nor does this article condone the use of a tragedy for political gain.
In the wake of the Atlanta shootings, there has been an increase in the push for more gun control in America. The Government, especially the Democratic Party now that they are the majority, are pushing their gun control measures. To this end, they are using the Atlanta shootings to further their gun control agenda. Taking advantage of the momentum a tragedy like this causes and use it for political gain.
The misinformation assault is pouring out of the anti-gun political engine at an alarming rate, especially after the Atlanta incident. This misinformation campaign takes advantage of a tragedy through fear to gain support for additional gun control measures. To add fuel to the momentum, comes the manipulation of statistical information from the Department of Justice and the FBI. This gives the impression of legitimacy while clouding objectivity and pushes a false narrative on gun violence in America.
Much of this information manipulation is being crafted by the Democratic Party and delivered by mainstream media. Both make the false narrative that mass shootings frequently occur and blame the gun as the cause. The Government never fails to use a tragedy and the emotions it invokes to manipulate the people. On top of that, mainstream media is right there shoving it in everyone’s face daily. The two act like co-conspirators, though parallel in their messages yet appearing to be independent of each other.

Government knows best?
The most dangerous aspect is not so much gun control in America as much as control overall. The problem is much bigger, the assault on our constitutional rights. If Government can get us to willingly give up one constitutional right, such as the Second Amendment, what is to stop them from going after other constitutional rights they feel prevent them from asserting more control; say the First Amendment or how about the Forth Amendment.
The goal, hide an unpopular or controversial agenda behind the larger umbrella of safety; in this case gun control in America. Many laws passed have been enacted under the guise of safety, in some cases rightfully so; seat belt laws, motorcycle helmet laws, Real-ID and cell phone use while driving laws. Safety for all, the main mantra of Government, is appealing to everyone and hard to argue against. It is this sleight of hand, safety for all message that blinds most to a more nefarious agenda; that of control or Government knows best.
In the case of gun control, manipulating a mass shooting event, our emotions and misinformation mixed in with the safety for all message trick us into believing a false narrative. This, in turn, spurs a movement within the people to ask for or support more gun legislation from the Government. However, the push is not to address the underlying issues concerning gun violence. Instead it is used to argue for more gun control in America. There is nothing better, in the eyes of Government, than when the people ask Government to do something, it is deceptively perfect.
Manipulation of American Values
Because America is hell-bent on protecting its rights and freedoms, it is difficult to infringe upon our Second Amendment outright. Instead, the Government and the anti-gun movement target specific firearms to soften their attack on guns overall. If they can get the people to agree on what an assault-style military weapon is or limiting magazine capacity, it becomes a wedge for more aggressive gun control measures.
To spur more gun control, Government, with the help of mainstream media, push a false narrative that the Government is here to protect us. This is so far from the truth it is laughable. This past year, law enforcement agencies announced they would not respond to certain calls for service during a pandemic. This should be a wake-up call, if the police cannot protect us during a crisis, you are on your own. Add to this the idea of defunding the police, and you have a perfect storm for crime.
In Australia, this is the very same tactic used that led to a partial gun confiscation. The guise that the Government could keep you safe. Watch this video by YouTuber Colion Noir about Australia’s gun confiscation.
Constitutional Intent
The Founding Fathers understood the importance of making the right to keep and bear arms the second amendment, not the fifth or eighteenth, the second. The constitutional intent is to show the importance of the Second Amendment in protecting our freedoms and the Constitution.
The Second Amendment is part of the original Bill of Rights. Again, demonstrating the importance of the Second Amendment. Furthermore, the Second Amendment protects our Frist Amendment rights, specifically freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Should the Government ever attempt to restrict the press, mainstream media would go crazy in defense of itself. Proclaiming how freedom of the press is a constitutional right that should be protected, unconditionally.
Therefore, it is ironic that mainstream media is out to undermine our Second Amendment rights by pushing misleading information. This is especially hypocritical when you consider how the media prides itself on integrity when reporting information . Yet, mainstream media spews the same misinformation and false narratives as the Government.
Addressing the issue
In the end, it is about protecting our constitutional rights, all our constitutional rights. In doing so, we keep Government from taking too much control. We see and hear, through mainstream media, the oppression of other governments and the rise of tyrants around the world. In most countries where this happens, the population is severely restricted or prohibited from gun ownership.
The most significant point of all. The Government, mainstream media, and the anti-gun movement fail to address the underlying issues contributing to gun violence. Issues such as; lack of economic opportunities, inner city violence, poverty, mental health issues, and racial injustice to name the most prominent. These very real issues, and more, contribute heavily toward gun violence and crime in our society today.
As much as it is said, guns do not kill; people kill. Whether it is with a gun, a knife, a baseball bat, or a car, the intent and desire to harm comes from within. Historically, Mankind has been killing one another since man first walked the earth and will continue to do so until the end of time, unfortunately. Its in our DNA, no matter the cause or method used.
There are no laws that can regulate or control the human condition, nor should there be. Should the Government ever try, we may be glad or wish we had the gun to protect our freedoms and our country.
